FCCG… More Than a Church… A Center for the Community

First Christian Church of Glendora began meeting in the community in the early 1880’s. In 1885, the church was chartered and in 1887 the congregation built its first building on Wabash and Bennett. In 1922, the congregation set in place the cornerstone on their current “home” on the corner of Glendora and Bennett.

This iconic 100 year old building is home to Sunday worship, hundreds of children and adults who gather to learn art and experience hope at our Fine Arts Academy, Cub Scout Pack 482, a Narcotics Anonymous group, and many other community activities and events. From serving as a Red Cross shelter during the floods of 1969 that destroyed homes and hillsides, to being a gathering place for blood drives, food drives, annual parades and activities like the Train Show and Empty Bowls, FCCG has gladly and humbly opened our doors to the community.

As FCCG continues to open its doors to the community and expand our Arts Center, there are repairs and improvements that we would like to make to our building. To accomplish all of this, we are applying for matching grant funds and reaching out to the community to invite others to contribute to this Capital Campaign.

In applying for matching grant funds, the funding organizations look to the support and participation of the requesting organization. This is where YOU come in, we would love to have community support and participation.  If you have been blessed by a program at FCCG, we invite you to participate in this campaign. No gift is too small.

Thank you for your consideration of contributing, as together we embrace the future and celebrate our past.

Celebrating Life’s Heroes

The traditional definition of a “hero” is someone who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Many of the people listed below have been “frontline workers” during the pandemic and definitely warrant our admiration and appreciation. We are grateful for their service, compassion and care.

During the month of May there are “Appreciation Days” that have been set aside to celebrate, give thanks and recognition to these individuals.

  • National Police Week & Police Officers’ Memorial Day
  • National Nurses Day
  • National Teachers’ Day
  • School Nurses Day
  • Military Spouse’s Day
  • Mother’s Day
  • Armed Forces Day
  • National Waiters and Waitresses Day
  • Memorial Day

If we use this list as a starting point for showing appreciation to these various people that we know and encounter, then we are on our way to being more appreciative. An “attitude of gratitude” can brighten the day for those we thank, and it changes our outlook on life as well. Make a point to say thank you to these “superstars” and show your appreciation to those who have made a positive difference in our lives. And, while you are at it, be sure to give thanks to God for all that God has done.
